An Interview with Jen Russo, Founder of JUJA Active

It’s been almost a year since Jen Russo opened JUJA Active in Southampton on Jobs Lane. Now, her fitness apparel and accessory boutique has landed in East Hampton! Jen Russo’s boutique in East Hampton, which opened May 6th, sells an assortment from 30+ designers including W.I.T.HRed TigerTrack & Blissand Pheel. JUJA Active will also officially be introducing active-wear accessories at the new East Hampton location, including a must-have gym bag by Save My Bag.

Read my interview with Jen Russo below, where we discuss healthy bites in the Hamptons and Manhattan and what she is looking forward to most this summer.

Where is your favorite spot in the Hamptons and Manhattan to grab a quick healthy bite to eb

In Manhattan I love the salad selections at Birdbath in Soho and Nolita and the 1.5 green juice from Pressed Juicery on Lafayette. In the Hamptons I often just pick up local berries from a farm-stand to snack on. And I love the local dinner selections at Almond in Bridgehampton.

What are your favorite farmstands in the Hamptons? Why?

I actually have different favorite farmstands for different vegetables (I’m kind of a local vegetable addict). Pike in Sagaponack for tomatoes, arugula and broccoli; Dayton Farms in East Hampton for yellow & white corn; Halsey in Water Mill for escarole and kale. And Round Swamp Farms for guacamole. Which is not a vegetable but still an essential part of summer for me!

What are you looking forward to most the summer? That is so exciting that you have a new store in East Hampton on Newtown Lane!

Thank you! I love warm weather so I’m always looking forward to summer. This year I’m particularly excited to share all of our latest JUJA goodies with our wonderful community in the Hamptons. We have so many fantastic new activewear items and we’ve added yoga/gym bags this summer as well.

What are some of your favorite recipes/dishes to create at home?

During the summer my husband tosses local fish and vegetables on the grill. I love to make simple marinades to bring out their delicious, natural flavors. During the winter months, one of my favorite dishes to make is roasted salmon with a pesto crust. I pair it with quinoa or lentils and assorted sautéed vegetables.

What are your favorite snacks to bring to the beach, and on the go?

My absolute favorite beach snack on a hot, sunny day is watermelon. On the go I carry Kind bars and sometimes a hard-boiled egg.
