This was my first time visiting The Restaurant at Baron’s Cove for brunch. During the autumn season, it can be tricky to find a restaurant that is open (and reliable) for brunch straight through into the mid afternoon. Baron’s has one of those few dining scenes with not only a spectacular view, but one that is also open seven days a week.
We each started our brunch experience with freshly roasted coffee ($4) served in their signature Baron’s Cove mugs that are available to purchase in their gift shop just behind the lobby. In addition to the coffee, the live guitarist directly opposite our table perked us up that morning. My mom had Skipper’s Bloody: clam juice & poached shrimp, lemon ($18), which she noted as “expectational.” The restaurant was brimming with guests that Sunday morning when we dined there just over a week ago. Oneiell, who take care of us, was so kind and went out of his way to make our visit extra special. He was very attentive with refilling our coffee, bringing extra napkins, and even laughing along with our daughter’s game.
For our entrees, my mom had the Mason Dixie Eggs: poached eggs, cheddar grits, braised greens, tomato chutney ($14). My husband chose the Beach Plum Farm Daily Omelet: market inspired daily omelet, simple greens ($14); and I ate the Lobster Omelet: Maine lobster meat, garden herbs, local corn, artichoke hearts ($20). Each omelet was crafted with the perfect consistency, warm temperature, the vegetables firm, and for mine, the lobster had a tangy taste. My mom loved her poached eggs which were cooked exactly to her specifications. The grits were a true Southern-style staple. My husband’s omelet was made with yellow summer squash and tomatoes. Our sides salads were arugula with a honey vinaigrette dressing.
For dessert, we shared a scoop of their cookie dough cookies and cream ice cream with a Vanilla Wafer garnish. My two favorite ice cream flavors became one, how perfect!
