What a year 2016 was! I had the pleasure of dining at the best restaurants in the Hamptons and North Fork as well as some notable restaurants in Manhattan, Connecticut and Washington D.C. It proved to be very tough to narrow it down to ten favorite dishes, but after careful consideration, I am thrilled to present the ten best things I ate this past year. I could only imagine what delectable plates 2017 will bring!
Sotto Sopra is a standout spot for dinner in the heart of Amagansett. Set on Main Street, this Northern Italian restaurant, featuring rear outdoor dining during the warmer months, serves exquisite, traditional dishes created by Executive Chef Fermin Jimenez. Sotto Sopra’s evokes a comforting, warm atmosphere paired with professional, knowledgeable staff. When my husband and I dined here this past Sunday evening, each staff member provided us with exceptional, genuine service which I find lately is very difficult to find.
Sotto Sopra’s finely tailored menu includes freshly baked bread and Italian style pizza, succulent steaks and chops, and whole-roasted fish. To note, their traditional wood-burning oven bakes incredible pizzas. These include The Picante Pizza, layered with peperoni and spicy sausage over ricotta cheese, the Primavera’s combination of sautéed vegetables, including dried tomatoes and mozzarella cheese, and my choice, the Funghi Pizza, topped with sautéed mushrooms, spinach, and robiolina.
This summer, I combed the Hamptons to find the most mouthwatering lobster rolls that everyone must try before Labor Day. I tasted, I rated, and now after trying over two dozen lobster rolls this season from various restaurants and catering companies, I have carefully narrowed it down to seven. Below are my personal favorite signature seaside rolls stuffed with lobster meat from Sag Harbor to Montauk. Honorable mentions will also be noted.
Hitting the Montauk and Amagansett scene is the brand new Solutions Organic Juice Bar. The Montauk location opened over Memorial Day Weekend and their Amagansett storefront opened their doors just over one week ago. The juice bar is ideally located in the heart of Montauk’s Village, and within walking distance to tons of boutique shops, museums, fitness studios, and the beach!
When you step inside, there is a no-nonsense, pure healthy vibe that instantly sets in. What you see is what you get: professional service, delicious juices, smoothies and more made with the freshest ingredients, and what’s even better is that everything is prepared from scratch in front of you. This is the spot you need to be to refuel after a day at the beach or hiking the Montauk trails. It’s about time the Hamptons has Solutions!
Indian Wells Tavern is a laid-back and intimate restaurant that serves some of the heartiest, feel-good dishes paired with a great value. Situated on Main Street/Montauk Highway in the heart of Amagansett and within walking distance to boutique shops and museums, the Tavern is the place to catch up with friends and family any day of the week. Grab a cocktail and appetizer at the bar, or stay for dinner.
Upon arrival at 5:30pm, the bar already had a lively crowd of mostly men watching a March Madness basketball game. The dining room had three tables occupied, one couple and two families. I was pleased to see that the restaurant is very child-friendly. Sarah accompanied us and sat in a high chair at our booth. The booths are very spacious and comfortable. The back booths can sit three and three on either side.
