The Chequit Serves Up New & Delicious Dining and Retail Options 2017

So chic and ever-evolving is The Chequit, one of my top three favorite spots on Shelter Island. Red Maple is one of my top choices to bring friends and family to dine. Each time we have visited, we have always been more than impressed with the service and quality of the dishes. Their coconut cake, for example, was chosen as one of the Ten Best Things I Ate in 2016.

New to Shelter Island’s stylish retreat this season includes an expanded offering of baked goods at their onsite grab-and-go outlet, White Hill Café; a freshly stocked Salt Supply retail shop; and delectable new menu offerings at Red Maple, the inn’s bar and restaurant.

Cliffside Inn in Newport, Rhode Island

A romantic escape set in the historic, seaside town of Newport, The Cliffside Inn is a couple’s ideal luxurious destination with the comforts and senses of home. The Inn also serves as a perfect getaway for small groups,, families, and friends. This was my husband’s first visit to Newport and my second. The last time I explored Newport was nine years ago while on a holiday bus trip from Hartford, CT where I visited several of the mansions during the holidays. I had longed to come back for several years and was delighted that I had the opportunity to stay for the weekend.

We arrived to The Cliffside Inn late on Friday night. We were so pleased with the communication with the staff prior to our arrival, regarding where we could pick up our key and where to park. My husband and I stayed in The Carriage House, which has its own private entrance, its own parking space, and is just steps away from the main house.

Getaway to c/o The Maidstone

I had the pleasure of enjoying a lovely, whimsical stay at one of my favorite spots on the East End, c/o The Maidstone in the historic Village of East Hampton. This eclectic and chic boutique was just the spot my husband and I needed for a little ‘staycation’ with our daughter. The entire hotel is family-friendly and dog friendly, making it an ideal escape for everyone. Every aspect of The Maidstone and their restaurant, The Living Room Restaurant, is so inviting and stylish. You could spend your entire stay at the hotel and still not discover every chic and heartwarming Scandinavian detail this oasis has to offer.

We began our stay by checking in just after 3:30pm, set our belongings in our room, Josef Frank. Each of their 19 rooms, named after a Scandinavian celebrity or historical figure, is individually designed and has its own character and charm. Austrian-born Josef Frank was a renowned artist and architect who adopted Swedish citizenship in the latter half of his lifetime. The room features an original Josef Frank banana sofa by the bay window and a dressing room, a marble bathroom featuring a free-standing claw foot tub along with a separate rainfall shower, a King-size Hästens bed, luxurious toiletries by Malin + Goetz, and flat screen television with a DVD player.

North Fork Guest House

Centrally located in North Fork’s tranquil wine region in Cutchogue, North Fork Guest House was opened by Alane Kelly and Daniel King Memorial Day Weekend of 2015. This modern and chic B&B, originally constructed in 1921, is just steps away from nearby vineyards and boutique shops, including Bedell Cellars. Once I stepped inside, I felt very welcome and instantly came to admire the contemporary design and peaceful, right-at-home furnishings. The dining room, where breakfast is served family style, is very open with a modern appeal, with plenty of natural light streaming through. The smell of fresh scones from the kitchen gave me that warm feeling of home in the country.

The guest house boasts three rooms with luxury amenities. Each has a Stearns and Foster pillow top mattress, 500-700 thread count sheets, a private bathroom with Turkish towels and eco-friendly toiletries that include shower gel, shampoo, and lotions in Mason jars. Unique to the guest house is there are no televisions in the rooms. This is an opportunity to remove yourself from technology, even if it is only for a couple of days. Take a walk, visit the beach, and explore all of the bounties the North Fork has to offer.
