Macarons are landing in the Hamptons this summer! I am a loyal fan of macarons, the bright photogenic colors and presentation, aroma, delicate flavors, every aspect. As stated in a previous post, I choose to enjoy mine straight from the box like Oreos with a cuppa. I was delighted to be introduced to the founder of The Bearded Baker, Scott Krevat, by the Christine Clemens, the Founder and Head Chef of the catering company, Hamptons Haute.
Krevat, a 2013 graduate from New York University where he studied Biochemistry founded his macaron company soon after he graduated. “I knew I always wanted to start a business every since I was a little kid,” explains Krevat. “I was enterprising candy on the playground and cards for money. I knew I didn’t want to go into science and work in a lab, so I really wanted to make something. I found out about macarons, received a box as a gift from my mom, and as I was about to head home, I ate the entire box in the car. “Why haven’t I had one of these before?”
Krevat taught himself how to make macarons from watching YouTube videos, read recipes and infused his expertise in chemistry to create these masterful treats. The macarons are naturally gluten free as they are crafted with almond flour.
The Bearded Baker likes to focus on traditional macaron flavors, including Pistachio, Almond, Raspberry Citrus, S’mores, and Chocolate. “In the beginning, I was trying out innovative flavors such as Fruity Pebbles, Rainbow Cookie, Red Velvet, French Toast, and Birthday Cake. But I found that customers were more interested in macarons flavors they were used to. The popular flavors include Pistachio, Nutella, and Rose.” Past holiday/seasonal flavors have included Peppermint, Peanut Butter & Jelly, and Pumpkin Pie.
Krevat’s favorite flavor is Raspberry Citrus made with raspberry jelly and lemon curd that is tart, refreshing, and sweet. My favorite flavor was Pistachio and Chocolate Peanut Butter. I loved the dainty exterior, and soft, smooth center. The aromas of each macaron are exquisite.
A close friend of Krevat’s from Amsterdam created his logo based upon his own idea with the bearded chef title and chef’s hat.
The Bearded Baker is accepting custom orders (min. 10 boxes). For orders over one hundred, Krevat will create any flavor and color you desire, perfect for your specially themed celebration such as a shower or wedding! Hamptons Haute will be incorporating their macarons into her catering options/packages and presentations.
