I would love to introduce you to one of my favorite designers, Lisa Shaller-Goldberg who I met last year at Jill Zarin’s Luxury Luncheon. She is the Founder and Creative Director of Minnie Rose and one of the most respected icons in the fashion industry today. Minnie Rose delivers the sophistication of the global jet set with their luxury collection that offers cashmere, cotton and knits separates. Shaller-Goldberg was the driving force behind iconic 90’s and 2000’s brands Juicy Couture, Camp Beverly Hills, Ugg Australia, True Religion, and Hard Candy. Remember the Juicy Couture track-suits famously worn by celebs such as Britney Spears and Paris Hilton? Shaller-Goldberg was the driving force behind the brand and the individual who brought Juicy Couture to the east coast.
This luxurious Minnie Rose collection features ponchos, shawls (my favorite), fringy cardigans and skirts that are made with lightweight cotton and cashmere. Celebrity fans include HRH the Duchess of Cambridge Catherine Middleton, Selma Blair, Jennifer Garner, Lisa Rinna, January Jones, Oprah Winfrey, and Christie Brinkley. I recently sat down with Shaller-Goldberg and discussed how she spends her summer in the Hamptons and at her home in Montauk, fashion essentials out east, and a sneak peek into her fall 2016 clothing collection.
What are your favorite aspects of Montauk, such as beaches, restaurants, and shops? How long have you been coming out/living in Montauk?
My husband and son love to fish, my son also surfs and my daughter and I love to do yoga on the beach. You can’t beat Montauk for all three, so as a family Montauk is a great place for all of us to wind down from the bustle of the city. We have been coming out to Montauk for the last ten years.
What are three things you most look forward to about coming to Montauk each season?
Relaxing and spending time with my family and friends is what I most look forward to. We love Gin beach for family time and ditch plains for surfing. Harvest restaurant is our family favorite. My kids love to feed the fish off the dock.
How does your company epitomize the Hamptons/Montauk style?
It’s all about a casual, boho, surf vibe.
What are 2 to 3 pieces that every woman should own and show off from your collection while spending the summer out in the Hamptons?
Definitely the fringe ruana, fringe hankie poncho and our cashmere duster. They are all easy transitions from day to night and complete any summer outfit.
What are some events and happenings during the summer out east that you never like to miss?
The Hamptons Magazine annual Clambake and Stars over Montauk, July 4th fireworks on Umbrella beach are some of our favorite events.
When packing for vacation, no matter where you go in the world, what are your fashion essentials?
I live in jeans, t-shirts and cashmere sweaters. When I travel I also take the Cashmere travel blankie from my collection in a bunch of colors.
How did you choose the name Minnie Rose? It is such a beautiful, feminine name.
It is the first names of both of my grandmothers. They were my fashion inspiration. One was boho and eccentric and the other was classic Chanel.
Which items from your collection could customers begin wearing now that will transition well into the autumn months?
Our core line consists of an array of shawls, ruana’s and ponchos that are all great to wear on cooler summer nights and will take you throughout the seasons. We also have some great foundation pieces that can be used alone now and layered later.
The collection is available at high-profile specialty Hamptons boutiques such as Obligato, Michelle Farmer, Summer Stock and Bon Nuit. You can also purchases pieces on her website.
