Barilla’s Italian Bites on the Beach SOBEWFF

Barilla’s Italian Bites on the Beach sponsored by HCP Media and the Miami Herald Company took place this past Thursday, February 21st beginning at 7pm in Miami Beach. The kick-off event to the annual South Beach Wine and Food Festival was once again hosted by Giada De Laurentiis. Hundreds of guests had the opportunity to taste a variety of authentic Italian plates from regions including Tuscany, Sardinia, and Sicily.

This casual, upbeat event is held under a large tent on the beach just off of Lincoln Road, so it is essential to wear flip flops or flat, comfortable footwear.

Over twenty chefs and a few dozen more wine, beer, and spirit companies came together for hours of music, dancing, entertainment, and plenty of food and drinks. Water, sponsored by Essentia Water, was plentiful, and beverage sponsors including Heinken, La Croix, Campari, and Aperol Spritz hosted several on-site activations and photo ops.

The official pasta was Barilla, which provided each of the chefs with different types of pasta to create their savory and memorable dishes. Notable plates included Mozzarella Jalapeño Arancini with Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Coulis, and Fresh Basil Oil by R House Wynwood; Gianni’s Reverse Spherical Mozzarella with Pesto and Olive Dust by Jose Martinez of Gianni’s in the former Versace Mansion; pizza by Pizza Bar with its signature ‘Italian Bites’ pizza displayed proudly that evening; and Lemon Basil Cheesecake by Kim “Daisy” Nelson of Daisy Cakes.

My favorites included Truffle Arancini with Ricotta, Mint Truffle Honey, and Affilla Cress by Patrick Ochs of The Celino Hotel; and Foraged Mushroom Risotto with Parmesan Zabaglione, Egg Yolk Jam, and Shaved Black Truffles by Alex Seidel of Merchantile in Denver.

Barilla’s Italian Bites on the Beach kicks of South Beach Wine and Food Festival’s weekend full of over one hundred events held throughout Miami-Dade County including sit down dinners, master classes, and so much more.

Next year’s South Beach Wine and Food Festival will take place February 19-23, 2020. #EastEndTasteTravels
