Located steps away from Maidstone Beach off of Three Mile Harbor Road in the hamlet of Springs in East Hampton, Bel Mare Ristorante is serving up generously hearty portions of our favorite Italian dishes fit for the whole family. Step inside to a warm and welcoming atmosphere year round with handsome décor inspired by our favorite Italian icons like Frank Sinatra and the films The Godfather and Goodfellas. Owned and operated by longtime East Hampton residents, The Gherardi Family, the menu encompasses a selection of comfort food classics we all know and love married to reasonable price points.
If Bel Mare has not already become one of your top destinations to bring the whole family for a casual night out, it will be the moment you step inside. The booths, former church pews, are very spacious and are ideal for lively, intimate conversations. The bar area has opened up with plenty of seats, creating the quintessential spot for happy hour.
The menu at Bel Mare features a selection of antipasti and insalate as appetizers. It also features pasta, pesce, pollo, veal, and pizza. A selection of specials are available each evening as well, including a fish of the day, and eggplant rollatini that was available on the evening we visited. All of their pizzas are made in house and are also available gluten-free, vegan, and are available to customize.
Our menu selections for the evening included:
- Chopped House Salad: mixed greens, cucumbers, black olives, tomatoes, and carrots with choice of blueberry maple balsamic, strawberry honey balsamic, or blue cheese dressing ($10)
- Eggplant Fra Diavolo: Lightly breaded eggplant, sautéed and topped with red peppers and onions in a spicy marinara reduction ($19.95)
- Penne Bolognese: homemade meat sauce, sautéed with onions, red pepper and garlic ($16.95)
- Penne ala Fiorentina: spinach sautéed in olive oil, garlic, crushed red pepper, and marina sauce ($18.95)
- Eggplant Rollatini (special)
Additional notable dishes include Baked Clams Oreganata, Frutti Di Mare, Funghi Pizza with Truffle Oil, and Pollo Parmigiana.
Don’t expect to finish your meal at Bel Mare! The real treat is being able to take a portion of your food home with you to enjoy the next afternoon. The Chop House Salad was the smart choice to begin with. I loved the textures and variety of this traditional house salad, which acts as the perfect starter to any one of their entrees. Our favorites were the Penne ala Fiorentina and Eggplant Rollatini. The sauces really stood out and created another layer of irresistible taste to each dish. Bread is served for the table with olive oil.
A must-have for dessert at Bel Mare is their cannoli. Pair it with either coffee, tea, espresso, or cappuccino.
