Centro Trattoria & Bar in Hampton Bays

On Sunday, I made my first visit to Centro Trattoria & Bar for Long Island Restaurant Week, which spans Sunday to Sunday, October 29-November 5 and includes a three-course prix fixe dinner for $28.95. Restaurant Week is held across Long Island at almost 200 restaurants. Centro is located just off W. Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, within close proximity to Stop n’ Shop, Macy’s, and Planet Fitness. This friendly Italian restaurant is for everyone: families, couples, children, friends, and colleagues of all ages.

Upon arrival, Nina, our host, greeted and seated us. During our dining experience, never was there a moment where we felt hurried or were waiting for our drinks or meal. Our water glasses stayed filled too. The service is top notch and genuine, and we felt a very warm vibe right from the start that lasted throughout our stay. Katie, our waitress, was particularly exceptional. We enjoyed the atmosphere so much that we took our time and savored each dish for a total of almost three years. It is rare these days to find a restaurant that gives you the opportunity to do just that.

The interior is very open and on trend: think traditional European accents with subtle, upbeat music that millennials, such as myself, would appreciate. The ample bar space offers happy hour Monday-Friday from 4-6pm which includes select Italian wines by the glass and tap beers at half off in addition to half off all brick oven pizzas. This is a great spot to meet people or after work or shopping and exploring the town.

To start, I chose the Blueberry Sage Mojito: Grey Goose, Intense Ginger Liquor, Muddled Lime, Sage, and Blueberry ($14). Grey Goose is my favorite vodka. This cocktail was so smooth and refreshing and I really liked the piece of candied ginger.

Our prix fixe choices were as follows: NONNA’s Meatballs: Pomodoro, Grana Padano; and their Mussels in white wine garlic. Next was the Chicken Milanese: Rugola, tomatoes, white beans, red onion, Grana Padano, white balsamic; and Organic Salmon: Lemon potatoes, sautéed spinach, lemon caper olive tapenade. For dessert, we had the Classic Tiramisu (+$4), and Italian Cheesecake. The portions were perfect and we still had some leftover to bring home for lunch the following day. I can’t stop thinking about the Chicken Milanese and my guest loved her Salmon; everything was just perfect and we would not change anything about our experience.

I would love to come back again soon. Their Burrata caught my interest on the menu which is a dish I would certainly order next time. Their Burrata is Panko-crusted with watermelon, sliced almonds, lavender honey, balsamic glaze. Those earthy flavors and mixture of creamy and crunchy textures sound so irresistible.

We noticed there was a private room towards the right after you enter the restaurant. The private dining area seats up to forty, ideal for parties and reunions.

Centro Trattoria & Bar is open seven days a week beginning at 4pm. Dinner service commences at 5pm.

Drink It Tuesday: Tickle Water

Cheers to the upcoming summer! I am thrilled to reintroduce my readers to one of my favorite child-friendly beverage companies, Tickle Water. My favorite characteristic of Tickle Water is that it is perfect for small hands, meaning that it will be ideal for my daughter to bring with her to school and activities. Her favorite is the watermelon and green apple. She calls the Watermelon flavored water “owl bubbles.” It is so cute when she laughs after each sip. We enjoy Tickle Water together during the afternoon while at our pool. The size is also compact and lightweight for bringing to the beach. The tickly taste is so refreshing!

Sweet Sunday: Gemelli Gelato

Last Saturday, I visited Gemelli Gelato for the first time in Hampton Bays, located just off of Montauk Highway. There are many unique characteristics about this gelato shop that everyone will love: the array of unique, artisanal gelato flavors, nitro brew coffee, specialty waffle cones, and plenty of outdoor space for families to run about and play. Very few businesses offer such an incredible amount of ‘play’ space, while also serving some of the best gelato in the Hamptons!

Drink It Tuesday: Tickle Water

Tickle Water is a gentle, fun sparkling water for kids and adults of all ages! I was instantly intrigued with the beverage when I discovered the company at a Kid Fest event at Guild Hall in East Hampton. At the event, I noticed how parents and children were very drawn to the adorable packaging and pint size 8 oz BPA free PET plastic cans specifically designed to fit children’s mini hands. Tickle Water comes in four flavors: Sparkling Water, Green Apple, Watermelon, and Cola.

Tickle Water was founded by Heather McDowell when she realized, as a mom, how difficult it was to incorporate healthier options into her son’s diet.  Her son, Jayger, would reach with his mini hands for her sparkling water and one day, she poured him some bubble water.  From his first sip, Jayger loved the “tickling” sensation on his taste buds; the name stuck, and Tickle Water was born. The name is so sweet and perfect for young children. This water is ideal to include in children’s lunch boxes for summer camp,  long car trips, and school.

Each flavor is free of preservatives, GMOs, gluten, sodium, sugar, calories, and artificial sweeteners!

Tickle Water is primarily sold within the New York City metro area and on Long Island. For example, on the North Fork, it is sold at The Market on Front Street. On the South Fork, it is sold at Bhumi Farms in East Hampton, Continental Market in Montauk, and Sag Harbor Beverage in Sag Harbor.

Rumba Rum Bar in Hampton Bays

My second stop for last week’s Long Island Restaurant Week was Rumba Rum Bar in Hampton Bays, just down the road from CowFish and under the same ownership. This was my second visit to Rumba; my first visit was for lunch for their Thursday taco trio special a month prior. Their tacos are outrageous! Taco choices include chicken, fish, and fried avocado, to name a few. I look forward to coming back later in the month just for their tacos and fried plantains and of course a rum punch.

During my first visit, I learned some great tips from some friends who frequent Rumba. It is no surprise that Rumba is a summer hotspot, and that is an understatement. Both eateries are scorching with popularity that it is recommended that you park at the Mariner’s Cove Marina (just located between the two restaurants) to take the Rum Bus over to Rumba. An alternative is valet parking at both restaurants. Second, arriving early for dinner is a must, then come back later at around 10 or 11pm for drinks. If you want to dine during quieter hours, my suggestion is during the week Tuesday-Thursday between 2-4pm. My husband, daughter, and I arrived for dinner to Rumba at 5pm on a Sunday evening, and it was shoulder-to-shoulder packed already! The restaurant reserved us a special table right by the window.

CowFish Hampton Bays for Long Island Restaurant Week

CowFish is located just on your way to or from the center of Hampton Bays right on the water situated just behind Out of the Blue Seafood. Upon arrival, valet promptly took care of parking our vehicle and we head up the stairs with the restaurant with Sarah, who was excited to see a wooden ship play area and instantly ran toward it. We let her play for about five minutes before we went in to dine. What a fabulous idea for little ones to let loose and play before settling in to dinnertime.

Afterward, we realized we walked all the way up to the top floor bar and seating area, which boasts superior views of the bay. The restaurant was just downstairs. There was ample seating upon arrival just after 5pm on a Saturday, though to our surprise, the restaurant filled to capacity within the next half hour. As we were leaving at just before 6:30pm, we overheard there was already a forty-five to an hour wait-time. The wait staff was very kind and went out of their way to serve us.

Drink It Tuesday: Rockin’ Wellness

I am a big smoothie drinker to say the least. Because I exercise six to seven days a week and I often have a busy daily schedule, I need to rely on a wholesome meal every morning that provides a boost post workout. I need this meal to also be as healthy as possible that requires little preparation. Ever since I was introduced to Rockin’ Wellness in March of this year, I have been hooked! Initially, I had the opportunity to try two of Rockin’ Wellness’s smoothie mixes: The Original Cacao (Chocolate), and Vanilla Mocha Swirl.

The Vanilla Mocha Swirl is a coffee-lovers smoothie mix. Sold in a 14 serving size bag, I have paired this smoothie mix with blueberries, strawberries, dates and cinnamon. I integrate The Original Cacao into my favorite smoothie creation made with chunky almond butter, maca powder, dates, a frozen banana, almond milk, and cacao powder.
