Drink It Tuesday: Suja

I first tried Suja at the Spatini event at Gurney’s Inn this past Friday. I was offered to try their apple celery flavor made with cucumber, kate, collard greens, spinach and mint. It was a green frenzy on my tongue! The juice really hit the spot because it was fairly warm out that evening. The juice had a very refreshing, light flavor that took me about two hours to finish in between tasting passed hor d’oeuvres and touring the event. Suja was one of the vendors and I noticed throughout the evening that many guests were stopping by the table to taste test some of their juices. Suja had about eleven of their juices available for tasting. They sell this juice at Wild By Nature Hampton on West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. Originally from San Diego, California, Suja is a line of fresh, cold-pressed juices that offer a ton of nutrients in just one bottle (contains two servings).

In the future, I would love to try their strawberry flavor with hints of lemon, raspberry, and honey.

I love especially that this juice is labeled non-GMO (GMO=genetically modified organisms). Non-GMO is important because it means that our food has not been genetically altered. In other words, foods have been genetically modified by being injected, for example, with genetic material from another species. An example would be corn crops that are engineered to produce toxins that kill certain agricultural insect pests.

Click on the link above and please have a look at ingredients that are derived from GMO risk crops (ie. Xanthan gum, citric acid). Note that GMOs are prohibited in organic products. GMOs are considered to be unsafe and are banned throughout the European Union, Australia, Japan and other nations.

Suja has many varieties of juice flavors including coconut almond, carrot apple, lemon cayenne, and cold brewed tea flavors.
