London at Christmastime is a true treat for all visitors and locals alike. Tour the Christmas Markets, go on shopping adventures, see a holiday performance. There is much to do throughout the month of December into early January. A traditional afternoon tea with the festive trimmings and detailing is a work of art here at London Marriott Park Lane. An experience in London paired with Festive Afternoon Tea is a necessity. London Marriott Park Lane’s experience is as merry as they come.
Tea & Cocktails
Your two hour tea time begins with selecting your first tea. In partnership with JING Tea, London Marriott Park Lane has a selection of just over two dozens teas to try. This selection includes black tea, white tea, herbal infusions, oolong tea, green tea, flowering tea, and a rare and seasonal selection.
I recommend start with an herbal infusion tea like whole lemon verbena, whole rosebuds or blackcurrant & hibiscus. In between tastings, select a flowering tea or peppermint leaf to cleanse the palate. Interchange your favorite black tea during the main course and into the sweets like Earl Grey or Darjeeling. Finish with white, oolong, or green tea. My favorites are the JING Iron Buddha or JING Dragon Well.
You may also fancy a cocktail or glass of champagne with your tea. The Gin and Gam is a lovely choice. It is crafted with Dictador Ortodoxy, Cointreau, Creme de Apricot, Fresh Lemon juice, Orange Marmalade, Sugar Syrup, and Fresh Mint. There is also the Rose Garden or Citrus Fizzy. Cocktails are £12, each.
Festive Afternoon Tea Menu
The Festive Afternoon Tea menu includes a selection of sandwiches, scones, pastries, and sweet treats. The sandwiches and tart are served on a separate plate. The scones, pastries, and sweet treats are served on a three-tiered display in that order from first up to third tier.
My favorite is the Caramelized Onion and Goat Cheese Tart with tomato and pepper chutney.
Two types of scones are served with Cornish clotted cream, and mulled plum and apple jam. Pastries are a maple scented eggnog Santa macaron, pistachio Christmas tree macaron, and chocolate roulade with gianduja, ginger, and honeycomb. For sweet treats, unique and eye-popping masterpieces are four miniature presentations. The first are chocolate orange cones with bourbon cream and candied orange. There are also Christmas rum truffles and mini Christmas puddings ‘wrapped’ as presents for under the tree. Lastly, there is the caramelized chestnut mousse with chocolate soil in an edible flower pot.
Gianduja is traditionally a sweet chocolate spread with ground hazelnuts.
Our favorites? Impossible to decide. Each was so spectacular. Most unique I found was the mousse in the edible flower pot. I love seeing chestnut incorporated as a sweet treat.
