Hooked has officially set the golden standard for take away seafood in Montauk. Located on South Etna Avenue and just steps away from the beach, village shops and hotels, Hooked features an open kitchen with counter service and picnic tables outside on the patio. Spend the afternoon enjoying some of the best seafood in town or take your meal to the nearby beach or back to your room. The interior space has a casual, beachy feel with warm reclaimed woods and nautical décor.
The restaurant opened on May 1st and is owned and operated by locals Brian and Gillian Mooney. Brian is a 24-year veteran of the iconic Clam Bar at Napeague, is an expert shucker, and has tight relationships with local fisherman. He is very well acquainted with every fisherman in Montauk.
Best sellers include the Lobster Roll, Fish Tacos, and Tuna Poke Bowl. Everything was hit with us. We started with a cup of their Lobster Bisque and Crab and Corn Chowder. You can also purchase a container of their soups to take home.
The “locally hooked” section of the menu features grilled tuna, swordfish or mahi mahi, a tuna poke bowl and fish tacos. If you are looking for raw bar items the “locally dug” section includes Montauk pearl oysters, local clams and local steamers.
Boats with fries are your fried seafood platters with options such as fish ‘n’ chips, fried shrimp, fried soft shell crab, fried scallops, fried clams and more. Finally, the “off the hook” section is your land fare with a burger, BBQ baby back ribs, grilled chicken sandwich and a veggie burger.
“We wanted a place with restaurant quality food, at the right price,” explains Brian. “Elevated take out is how one person noted it.”
Brian, Gillian, and we both agreed how it can be very difficult going out to eat at a sit-down restaurant especially now with having two children, or three in the Mooney family. This is the ideal spot to bring the whole family, the youngest ones include. Our son, who is under a year, loved trying the fish tacos, corn, and soup.
Their Little Guppies menu has fish bites, chicken goujons, grilled cheese, and a hot dog. I know our daughter would love the grilled cheese!
Fish ‘n’ chips is a big seller. That is the dish I am coming back for the next time I visit. I love fish ‘n’ chips and would enjoy it on a regular basis when I lived and studied in the UK. I love to have any dish that brings me back to those days.
Pictured just below is their Hooked House Salad: kale, quinoa, cranberries, cotija cheese, orange segments with cranberry citrus vinaigrette. I along with so many others love the combination of kale and quinoa. This is a fun, wholesome refreshing salad that I would go back daily for if I could. Followed by their popular ‘locally hooked’ Tuna Poke Bowl: tuna, pickled cucumber, shiitake mushrooms & scallions, served over soba noodles in a southwestern cilantro vinaigrette. The tuna quite literally melts in your mouth and the flavor combinations are spot on.
Check out their custom vehicle, which hails from Japan! The bright blue is a real eye catcher.
Summer hours will be daily 11:30am-8pm. Off season hours are 11:30am-7pm.
