Despite cool temperatures and lingering puddles, the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce’s kick-off First Fridays event on May 3rd was a rousing success. From 6pm-9pm, Love Lane was closed to traffic so residents could stroll, mingle, and visit Love Lane shops as well as stalls from local vendors. With the street lights lit, the atmosphere was perfect for a cozy evening of camaraderie and commerce. The family-friendly event featured everything from face painting for kids to live music by guitarist and singer Robin Sidor.
Food options abounded with offerings from around the East End. Mattitaco’s food truck featured five delicious varieties of tacos as well as Chili Fries topped with their award-winning beef chili. Seafood came in the form of fresh shrimp cocktail and House-made New England Clam Chowder courtesy of Braun’s Seafood in Cutchogue. Goodfood Cafe in Mattituck had warm empanadas as well as steak chili available, and the Village Cheese Shop brought the delicious taste of fresh fondue to patrons. For dessert, North Fork Doughnut Company’s stall had a variety of their gourmet donuts for sale, and Port Jeff-based Cupcakes & Everything Chocolate offered banana bread and cupcakes-in-a-jar.
For adults, drink options were plentiful and gave patrons a chance to encounter some new local breweries along with old favorites. North Fork Brewing Co. offered several different types of beer, including a Mexican lager called Surfeza, which paired well with offerings from Mattitaco. Mattituck’s Eastern Front Brewing Co. likewise provided several beers on tap. For a sweeter taste, and to complement the almost autumn-like weather, Woodside Orchards had three flavors of their delicious hard cider available as well as bags of fluffy chocolate chip cookies for an extra treat.
Several other local businesses also had a presence, including In the Attic Too which sold beautiful carved wooden signs, handmade soaps, and mason jar candles in unique scents. The promotional company NorthForkNow featured a raffle to win a bicycle from Country Time Cycle in Mattituck. And to help with the chill in the air, the clothing company Northforkin’ sold sweatshirts, t-shirts, and hats.
