Lunch at Gosman’s Clam Bar

I always look forward to the outdoor eatery at Gosman’s Dock, called Gosman’s Clam Bar, opening every summer. Visiting here for lunch once a month has become a family tradition. We enjoy walking around the nearby shops, taking a drive past the Lighthouse, and watching the fishing boats come in as we eat our lunch. We have been coming to Gosman’s on a regular basis every summer since 2004 and before that perhaps once or twice a year. Since Montauk is a bit of a drive, we like to make the most out of our trip. In general, there are so many new restaurants that have opened up and new things to see and do in town. There are a number of places that I intend to visit this summer and you will see reviews of each of them.

For this visit, we came during the early afternoon, and noticed there was still a good amount of outdoor seating available. Usually on the rare occasion if we do not see table seats, there is some area on the grass or you could walk a short distance to the ocean (which is a must during the evening as it is very relaxing)!

The bar sells homemade chowder, lobster rolls, tuna salad, clams on the half shell, beer, seafood platters including tuna and swordfish, soda, iced tea, and even soft serve ice cream.

My husband and father-in-law ordered the steamed lobster and I ordered the lobster roll with a side of steamed corn and cole slaw with an unsweetened iced tea. The loved their steamed, whole lobsters and gobbled them up immediately. They are served with a side of melted butter and french fries. Don’t forget extra napkins!

The lobster roll was on the sweet side and the meat was finely chopped rather than the traditional chunks of lobster you may find, say at The Dockside in Sag Harbor or at The Lobster Roll in Napeague. I recommend trying it. Lobster rolls in general are always tasty on the east end. It is especially wonderful to enjoy one outside. Be careful, though. I have seen seagulls snatch food right out of people’s hands! Be sure also to never feed the seagulls, it just attracts them and it is not a healthy diet for the wildlife.

Afterwards, we walked over to the nearby Ben and Jerry’s and stopped in for a scoop of cookie dough ice cream on a cone. There is a large variety of ice cream flavors available at this location. There is outdoor seating available just in front.

Gosman’s Clam Bar is open seven days a week from noon until 9pm. Follow Gosman’s on Facebook.
