Lunch at Phoenix Chinese Restaurant

The Phoenix Chinese restaurant located in Wainscott just off of Montauk Highway has been one of my favorite lunch spots for over a decade. I have been coming to this restaurant since I was a young child, when my younger brother and I used to sit on the backs of the lions statues at either side of the entrance and have our pictures taken. I have gathered here many early afternoons on the weekdays in between work and on the weekends after volunteering at ARF or visiting Bridgehampton Commons. The service is consistently excellent and quick. Though I have rarely seen the restaurant crowded or even half full at lunchtime, most people that come here order out, which I have done on a few rare occasions.

During our last visit two weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon, my husband and I both ordered the lunch combo that lasts until approximately 3pm in the afternoon. It is a good deal; it comes with your choice of soup, rice (even though it says pork fried rice) and your choice of a small sized entree. Each meal begins with strips of fried wonton papers and house made duck sauce. My husband ordered the hot and sour soup, made with no meat and I ordered the egg drop soup. Make sure you ask your waiter if you would like salt and pepper at the table. I always sprinkle some pepper on my egg drop soup. For our meals, my husband ordered the garlic chicken with mixed vegetables and I ordered the garlic shrimp with mixed vegetables. Both the garlic shrimp and garlic chicken dishes come with assorted vegetables. Each meal is very filling and satisfying and it is especially convenient if you desire a quick, delicious lunch. Each meal ends with complimentary fortune cookies, which are always fun to trade and share.

The Phoenix restaurant offers many different types of meals and dishes, including a variety of healthy dishes such as steamed chicken and shrimp with mixed nuts (that is what I would order next!), steamed jumbo shrimp with vegetables, steamed broccoli and bean curd, and steamed asparagus and snow peas. They offer side dishes and desserts including lychee nuts and almond cookies.
