Lunch at Ram’s Head Inn

Rams Head Inn Shelter Island

Ram’s Head Inn on Shelter Island is that hidden oasis that everyone must visit, whether you are a seasoned visitor or resident of Shelter Island to one who is visiting for the first time. During my lunch on a Wednesday afternoon, my guest and I met families from as close as Manhattan and those vacationing all the way from Northern Italy, who expressed how much they loved the Inn.

Lunch for us was such a perfect time to dine outdoors. With the abundance of sunshine and picturesque views of the backyard and beach, it is the place to unwind and grab a delicious bite to eat.Rams Head Inn Shelter Island

To start, I had the Sunsplash cocktail made with Belvedere Ginger Zest, Cointreau, Orange blossom water, lemon, lime, and orange juices, and a splash of cranberry ($15). It was so refreshing and paired very well with the salad and duck quesadillas. Additional, notable cocktails (all are $15) include the Basil Breeze made with house infused basil vodka, and the Honeycomb Fix with Herradura Reposado Tequila and honey syrup.

For our appetizers, we had the house special Gazpacho, and the Watermelon and Baby Arugula Salad: feta cheese, candied walnuts and balsamic glaze ($14). The gazpacho, according to my guest, was so authentic that it reminded her of when she spent time in Spain years earlier. It was freshly prepared with a touch of spice with the tomatoes perfectly puréed. The Watermelon and Arugula Salad was the ideal portion as a starter.

For my entree, I had the Duck Confit Quesadillas: hummus, smoked gouda, mixed greens ($19). The quesadillas were served warm with fresh salsa, sour cream and a side salad. The portion is ideally for having without a starter. This dish was so delicious; I was only able to eat two, bringing the rest home. I would definitely order that dish again and I don’t normally order duck.

Additional lunch options include Roasted Red Beets, Heirloom Tomato & Burrata, Seared Sea Scallops, and Rams Head Burger.

Dessert options for lunch are each $12 and include Lemon Pudding Cake with whipped cream, an Apple Tart with vanilla ice cream, Chocolate Cake with caramelized bananas, and Vanilla Creme Brulee. We chose to split the Chocolate Cake with was also topped with roasted peanuts and served with coffee ice cream. We both paired our dessert with cappuccinos ($5.50).

Lunch is currently served seven days a week from 12-3pm. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Please call after Labor Day for updated lunch and dinner hours. // 631-749-0811
