Claude’s at the Southampton Inn recently debuted their new menu along with welcoming Executive Chef James Carpenter for the 2018 summer season. The restaurant features indoor, outdoor patio, and poolside dining options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My family and I visited for lunch during the week and had the rare opportunity to sit outside and enjoy our meal while our two children were entertaining themselves with ample room to run around and play while meetings new friends and guests staying at the inn.
The lunch menu comprises of homemade summer soups, salads, sandwiches, and sweets. Some dishes are prepared using vegetables and herbs from the Southampton Inn garden The waitstaff, who hail from a Floridian private club, were so efficient and accommodating.
Chef Carpenter created the lunch and dinner menu to showcase many local farms and farmers. Both menus incorporate fresh, in-season ingredients, and include such dishes as Peconic Pride Oysters with shallot cucumber mignonette, Rope Cultured Mussels Chimichurri style, Satur Farm Little Gem Salad, Pan Roasted Day Boat Halibut with wild mushroom ragu and truffle potato puree, and Sheep Ricotta Gnudi with mini lamb meatballs.
Everything that my family and I tried on the menu was a hit! We started with the Lobster Mango Salad: avocado mousse, pickled cucumbers red pepper vanilla bean dressing ($19). A perfect portion and the inclusion of the pickled cucumbers were refreshing with a touch of spice.
For our main courses, we had the Jamaican Chicken Breast Sandwich: pineapple mango salsa, lettuce tomato, red onion, ciabatta roll spicy coleslaw ($14); and, from the starters section, the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes: yuzu remoulade, corn miso salad ($18).
We would order both dishes again in a heartbeat! Additional notable dishes on their lunch menu include the Hudson Valley Burrata Cheese salad, Brioche Grilled Cheese, Chicken Milanese, and their Lobster Roll on a toasted brioche bun with hand-cut fries.
We finished our lunch experience with their delicious Strawberry Shortcake and Chocolate Cake with fresh strawberries. It was a tough decision choosing which desserts we wanted to try, so our waitstaff surprised us!
