St. Jude’s third annual Hope in the Hamptons took place this past Saturday, July 15th in Watermill at the home of Sue and Dave Birdsall. The Birdsall Family honored their family member, Drew, who was diagnosed with leukemia in June of 2013. After three and a half years of treatment at St. Jude, Drew is cancer free and back to being a kid again. “We know that St. Jude could not continue without the wonderful people [here tonight]. We cannot express how much this means to all of us.” -The Birdsall Family. Before St. Jude opened in 1962, the survival rates for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) were 4%. Today, the survival rate is 94%.
The event brought together over 500 guests to celebrate and support the work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Hamptons Haute once again beautifully catered the event, serving delectable passed hor d’oeuvres, wine, cocktails, and dinner.
Passed hor d’oeuvres included curried chicken salad on brioche, lobster salad on a cucumber slice, macaroni and cheese croquettes, and pigs in a blanket with spicy mustard. There was also an elaborate cheese display, crackers, fruit, spinach & artichoke, and hummus dip. Dinner plate offerings included: Watermelon & Feta salad with a basil mint drizzle (my favorite, so refreshing); bibb and heirloom tomato salad with a Caesar vinaigrette and homemade croutons; roasted vegetables; rosemary potatoes; couscous pilaf with mushrooms, peas and asparagus; Chicken Milanese; and Beef Tenderloin with horseradish dressing.
Guests were able to bid on items through a Live Auction and Silent Auction. Silent Auction items included jewelry from Kendra Scott, a clutch from Marjorie Bloom, a luncheon at the American Hotel, breakfast at Mill House Inn, a gift package from Hampton Coffee Company, Southampton Hunt & Polo Club lessons, and a Baiting Hollow Club Golf Outing for four. $238,688 was raised from the silent auction. The next two nights will be spent at the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah. The next three nights will be at Jumeirah Vittaveli Maldives. Unparalleled luxury at its finest!
Immediately following the Live Auction, St. Jude has hosted Give to Live. Give to Live is an opportunity to make an outright donation to support the life-saving work done at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. For example, $2,500 helps provide five days of oxygen to patients, $1,000 helps cover two-thirds of the cost of one day of chemotherapy, and $250 helps provide one red blood cell transfusion.
The event raised over $440,000 (and counting) for St. Jude!
