A new gourmet chocolate shop has opened on the North Fork in Aquebogue called the North Fork Chocolate Company! This spacious building is also home to a number of local purveyors who rent space and sell their fine products in the shop. This collective is full of creativity and that features such items for sale as coffee beans that can be ground on the premise, handmade vegan soaps, pickles, potato chips, milk, cheese, cookies, and more.
This past week, the shop has had a few days of “soft openings,” and intends to have their grand opening in late March of spring begins. The shop only features local organic from selected and trusted brands based on the eastern end of Long Island. Even their chocolates include fine ingredients from local farms and businesses.
The executive chocolatier is Chef Steven Amaral and the one who is behind the creation of all of their fine chocolates. In addition to their selling chocolate covered Oreos, pretzels, and chocolate bark, they also offer a wide array of gourmet chocolates that are a jewel compliment to the tastebuds. In fact, their artisanal truffles are some of the best I have ever tasted. You can tell instantly that the ingredients are hand chosen and that each piece is carefully crafted.
Milk chocolate creations include Fleur de Lis made with Hamptons Honey (local and raw), and milk chocolate ganache; and Amore, a heart-shaped chocolate made with Sep’s Farm’s local strawberry preserves. Dark chocolates include Darling, a clementine and caramel center; and Aztec Sol, a cinnamon infused cold cocoa fudge. My favorite white chocolate truffle was one made with goat’s milk caramel that was just divine.
The shop’s starting lineup includes Le Fusion, Pride Enjoy, Backyard Brine, Sugar Sweet, Old School Favorites, Aldo’s Coffee, North Fork Potato Chips, Goodale Farms, Carolyn’s Salon, Long Island Pickle, All for Nun Natural Soaps and Lotions, Hampton Skin Care, JETS Dream Greeting Cards, and Treazured Scentz Soy Candles. Future vendors with interest include Regional Buds from Westhampton who is looking to being in April, A Personal Beverage Machine in June where you can mix your own recipe soft drink made from natural juices, and even request delivery of your special recipe to be bottled and delivered to your house on the East End, Aunt Debbie’s Cookies, and Lou’s Rice Pudding.
North Fork Chocolate Company started in January 2013 through the Stony Brook University Incubator in Calverton, and in April 2014 won Finest Chocolatier by the Long Island Food Critic.
