When I snack on Raw Chocolate Love chocolate bars, I know I am enjoying a healthy, guilt-free confection. This chocolate not only tastes amazing, it is also packed with super-food ingredients such as coconut oil, and raw & organic cacao powder. I had the opportunity to sample their chocolate flavor creations, which include 78% dark chocolate: Plain Love, Coconut Love, PB Love, Sea Salt Crystals, Double Love (Chili Pepper), Cherry Love, Coconut Love, and Goji Berry Love, in addition to Double Dark Love (85% dark). I received a one once bar of the Coconut Love and one two once bar of the Plain Love.
Out of all of them, it was really difficult to decide upon a favorite. I narrowed it down to Sea Salt Crystals which woke up my taste buds, and the Cherry Love, which was very refreshing and had a subtly tart and sweet taste of dried cherries. I am not a fan of coconut chocolate but I loved the velvety, smooth taste of the coconut and chocolate in the Coconut Love. The coconut was a lovely compliment to the dark chocolate and reminded me of being at my father-in-law’s house in Antigua, West Indies.
Agave nectar adds just a touch of sweet to each chocolate bar and the coconut oil adds to that even consistency found in each bite. An ingredient I had never heard of before called Tocotreinols was listed on the back of each chocolate sample piece and bar. Tocotreinols is a natural component that is found in select vegetable oils, and certain types of nuts and seeds. It is a member of the vitamin E family and suppresses hepatic HMG-CoA reductase activity that results in the lowering of LDL cholesterol levels. Tocotreinol is sold as a supplement at most vitamin stores. Raw Chocolate Love is the only known chocolate made with Tocontrienols, a superior form of Vitamin E shown to reverse signs of aging of all major organs, including the skin.
Raw Chocolate Love was founded by Shimon Pinhas, a devout chocolate lover and holistic health counselor who set out to make the most nourishing, purest, tastiest chocolate possible using Raw Cacao and the most health-giving superfoods on the market. Pinhas is a 2006 graduated from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and now works part-time as a Holistic Health Counselor. Pinhas spent 22 years in the music industry as the owner of a very popular music studio in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, where bands and performers such as Lady Gaga would practice. In the company’s early days, Pinhas could often be found on his bike, sampling and selling chocolate to health food stores around the New York City area. His first chocolate excursion where he distributed samples to 25 stores resulted in 25 orders by the end of the week.
The price range: $4 for a one-ounce bar, and $7.80 for a two-ounce bar. Gift boxes range from $15 for the “Petite” to $35 for the “Deluxe”. They also sell truffles, which come in Almond Butter and Coconut, and come in boxes of 5, 8 or 16 and are priced from $11 to $33.
It is best to keep your chocolate stored in your refrigerator. Though I did keep mine stored at room temperature in a cool, dry place, and the chocolate tasted wonderfully.
