Located right in the middle of the action on Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre in Nassau County is The Bowery Bar and Fare. We visited for brunch on an early Sunday afternoon. The carnivalesque interior includes a variety of interactive games, eye-catching décor including a ‘tented’ ceiling and street fare toys, vintage stereos with a ‘balloon wall’ in the background. For everyone of all ages, you have the option of choosing to play a board game during your meal. Board games they offer include Trouble and Operation.
Cocktails are crafted by master mixologist, Nic Richards, who has developed creative cocktails that uniquely blend top shelf spirits with fresh flavors, along with 24 craft and locally sourced beers on tap. I chose the . Brunch cocktails include Apple Cider Mimosa, and a Bacon Bloody Mary.
We first chose the Breakfast Nachos to split: Tortilla chips, waffle bites, eggs, guacamole, pico de gallo, pickled peppers, scallions, sausage, black beans, cheddar cheese ($14). The waffle bites were a fun, unique touch and was very filling all by itself. A Bloody Mary and a plate of their Breakfast Nachos will do the trick!
For our main course, I had Biscuits and Squeak: homemade biscuits, fried chicken, poached egg, spicy country gravy ($14). We also had the Chicken Avocado BLT that is served with curly fries: Blackened chicken, Applewood bacon, lettuce, tomato, garlic aioli on sour dough ($12) from the Sandwiches and Jaffles menu. A jaffle is a toasted sandwich with its edges sealed that is traditionally made in a jaffle iron. We also ordered Cheddar Mac and Cheese ($10) for our daughter. Other options include Pepperoni Pizza or Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese.
The Biscuits and Squeak was our favorite. A perfect brunch plate with each layer cooked to perfection. I would order this dish again in a heartbeat! It’s exactly what you would dream of and then some: a perfect warm, crisp waffle with crispy juicy kitchen and a yolk-filled poached egg with the right amount of country gravy. What more could you ask for?
Children’s menu plates served with hash browns and kids juice and include Fruity Pebble Pancakes, and Egg and Cheese Jaffle.
