The Juicy Naam

Editor’s note: this business has closed

Just next to the Sag Harbor Baking Company, you will find The Juicy Naam, founded by Giuliana Torre. This is a quaint little shop that sells herbal remedies, supplements, and of course fresh, raw juice and smoothies from their juice bar. I noticed some local vendors sold their food products at the shop, including Anke’s Fit Bakery, which I was happy to see. There is a great deal to browse through and I took my time looking to see what was sold there.

I purchased three snack items: Brad’s Raw Leafy Kale: Pina Kale-Ada, organic Banana Balls, and Livia’s Kitchen Russian Tea Cakes ($12 for each). I was introduced to kale chips for the first time in 2012. They are a phenomenal alternative to any potato chip and have a flaky and crunchy texture. With these kale chips, the pineapple flavor balanced well with the dried the kale. These are perfect to bring to the beach for a mid-afternoon snack. The Russian Tea Cakes, which are homemade by Livia’s Kitchen is based in Los Angeles, were fun to eat. They were slightly sweet, cakey with pieces of walnuts, and teamed very well with my afternoon cup of Ceylon tea. The cakes are very delicate and may crumble a bit in your hand.

The Banana Balls were my absolute favorite! I am not walking, I am running back for more Banana Balls! This amazing snack is from Glaser Organic Farms in Miami, Florida, and is made with all organic bananas, dates, raisins, almonds, walnuts, cinnamon, and nutmeg. It is a sweet treat that can substitute that craving for an empty-calorie chocolate bar or cookie. I am going back for (at least) two packages next time I come in.

This little juice bar and organic food shop has lovely staff members who are very friendly and helpful with choosing which items to purchase. Stop in and say hello one day soon! The Juicy Naam is open year round daily.
